Dream Interpretation: When We Dream Of Lobster
I was born and raised in Charleston, South Carolina, a place where seafood is abundant and I love just about all of it. Although, lobster is not an abundance here in my hometown, I can still get it almost for what this country pays for commodities such as: gas, toilet paper and eggs. But when we see lobster on any level in our dreams, it has the same meaning as in real life, if you are eating lobster, you either have deep pockets, or, you are having a special celebration that allows you to splurge a little. In any case, it represents wealth.
Around 1996 I worked for a well off woman, cooking for her family. She had three grown children and herself where I went everyday to each home and prepared a meal. This woman paid for the services I provided for her and her family out of her own pocket. Of course, the children had to pay for the food, but she paid for my service. She told me that she could leave her children all the money she was spending for my services, but she loved to watch them enjoy their inheritance while she is alive and able. She also explained that they were young and had families of their own and it was a big help to them to be able to come home from work and not have to worry about spending time over the stove cooking when they could enjoy a meal that was already prepared.
For about a month I have been working on changing my negative thoughts about money and the relationship I have concerning my finances and well being. Interestingly, it was during that time I had a dream about this lady and her lovely family. I dreamt that I was hosting a big dinner party at my home and they were my guest. Now I had actually forgotten about this woman and her family until this dream. In the dream, the main course was lobster. The lobsters were huge loaded with so much meat, just one would feed up to three people.
How do I interpret this dream? At first I believed that it was about becoming financially wealthy. But it was not. Remember I had been meditating about my relationship with money & well being. I also have recently been experiencing a few deaths and illnesses in my family. I do come from a very large family from my mothers side. I am the only biological child between my parents, but I have so many aunts, uncles and cousins, whom I love very much.
The family in the dream is a very tight knit family. Of course they have issues like all families, but there is a deep love and loyalty they have for each other. Just before Christmas of 2022, I discovered the seriousness of my father's illness. Prior to that, I had not seen or spoken to him in three years. The reason was because of the way he made me feel about myself. His words often could be very hurtful and cruel. I learned of his illness, dementia, that had taken a turn for the worst and went to him right away. He has become such a diamond in the rough. He has a much changed spirit filled with kindness, love, touching and compassion. He was always very giving, but lacked love and compassion, something to do with his upbringing I believe. In the midst of all of this, I discovered that my cousin's wife passed away. Knowing their situation, I knew it was just a matter of time before my cousin himself would pass away. I was right, two weeks later he passed. It was that very weekend of my cousin's death, my oldest son was admitted into the hospital for surgery to have gall bladder removed.
My dream about eating these big fat lobsters made me think I was going to become very wealthy. But the Universe had a different kind of message for me. Yes, the lobsters represented wealth, but not so much financially. I began to understand that I am extremely wealthy. I have a beautiful family, immediate and extended. They all have filled my life since I was a little girl with love, laughter and many fond memories that shaped me and help fill me with wisdom in my older years. In the end, when all is said and done, the only thing I have to offer to anyone is compassion and love. In first Corinthians chapter thirteen it describes what love means and it also expresses that we must have love, hope and faith. But, without love, we have nothing. I believe that if we do not have love, we are not eating lobsters, we are eating bologna.
As individuals, we get to decide if we want to grow and evolve on this planet filled with love. If we choose love, we become some of the most wealthiest people on the planet. So which would you rather eat? Is it going to be lobster or bologna?
